Hunters and anglers have identified allies in the U.S. Congress and state legislatures across the country serving as the first line of defense in protecting America’s outdoor traditions as well as promoting the sportsmen’s agenda through the collective muscle of sportsmen’s caucuses.
Sportsmen’s caucuses have always been effective in working together; not as Republican or Democrat, but as sportsmen and women. As a result, they have achieved many victories for hunting and fishing, as well as conservation and fish and wildlife habitat.
Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus
“There exists in Washington a caucus whose sole purpose is to preserve and strengthen the rights of hunters and fishermen. It’s called the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus…its members have repeatedly helped defeat anti-hunting legislation.” Todd Smith, Editor Outdoor Magazine
Established in 1989, the CSC is one of the largest and most active caucuses in the U.S. Congress. Comprised of republicans and democrats representing nearly every state, members of the CSC provide an identified group of allies that can be quickly called into action.
State Sportsmen’s Caucuses
“The benefit of having sportsmen’s caucuses in state capitols has never been more obvious. Sharing information and ideas has led to an incomparable force in state governments around the country, one that is focused on passing pro-sportsmen’s legislation and defeating attacks from the anti-hunting lobby.” Senator John Astle, Maryland State Caucus Co-Chair and NASC Executive Council President
Modeled after the highly successful Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus and formed to provide a voice for sportsmen in the halls of state government, 35 state sportsmen’s caucuses exist in state legislatures throughout the country.
