CSF President Jeff Crane Honors Safari Club International

January 13, 2009 (RENO, NV) - Jeff Crane, President of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, presented a special "20 year service" award to Safari Club International at SCI's 37h Annual Hunters' Convention in Reno, Nevada. The award was given to SCI for its generous support of CSF since its inception in 1989.
SCI also awarded Florida Congressman and Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus member, Representative Allen Boyd its federal legislator of the year award.
Transcript of Jeff Crane Award Presentation To SCI:

It's a great privilege to share this stage with the most passionate supporters of hunting in the US Congress...members of the bipartisan Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus. Everyone here joins me in thanking Safari Club International for your role in supporting the Caucus throughout its twenty year history... a role I'm sure you will continue.
Through support of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation from the GAC, SCI government affairs and the dedicated SCI lobbyists...you have helped provide the tools to enable the Caucus to be your standard bearer in Washington. Since the Caucus was formed in 1989, sportsmen have defeated every piece of anti-sportsmen legislation in Congress. Just as important...you have helped institute a long list of positive, lasting achievements...a list too long to cover tonight.
The history of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation mirrors that of the Caucus, and there are only a handful of partners that have been there from the beginning... none more important than SCI. This partnership goes much deeper than just financial support: SCI President Merle Shepard and past President Skip Donau are both members of our board, and one of your lobbyists, Jim Baker, is the immediate past Chairman of the CSF Board. I have also served on the GAC for the past six years.
When we elected to use the successful model of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus and take it to the states five years ago...SCI was there... through financial support, technical support, legislative tracking, and support from your network of state chapters. There are now 35 states with legislative sportsmen's caucuses under the umbrella of the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses... a CSF program.
Gentlemen...please join me in presenting this award to SCI for all you have done to empower sportsmen in the halls of government.
