Legislative Staff Experience Fun and Camaraderie in the Shooting Sports
August 19, 2010 (Washington, DC) - Congressional staff and sportsmen’s community representatives joined the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) on Tuesday for the annual August Recess Shoot at the Prince George’s County Trap and Skeet Center in Glenn Dale, Maryland.
The Annual Recess Shoot is a widely attended event that brings Congressional staff and the sportsmen’s community together learning about and experiencing hands on the fun and camaraderie provided by participation in the shooting sports.
Participants ranged from beginners who had never touched a firearm to experienced shooters. The beginning shooters were introduced to the sport with one-on-one lessons in firearm safety and target shooting skills from National Sporting Clay instructor Rhys Arthur, while the more experienced shooters took part in a friendly competition to determine the best shots.
“As this event continues to grow, so does the knowledge about and understanding of the shooting sports and our outdoor heritage, which is very important to the bipartisan members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus,” said CSF President Jeff Crane.
Top gun for the best overall score for the day went to Don Parrish. Republican top gun went to John Mautz and Democrat top gun went to Damon Wells. Female top gun was Stephanie Meyers. Other winners included: top skeet shooter, Mark Keeney; top trap shooter, Mike Stabolepszy; top sporting clays shooter, Chris Gullott.; and top beginners included Travis Norton, Erin Neal, and Kim Simmer.
The 2010 August Recess Shoot was hosted by Alpha Natural Resources and Exxon Mobil. Other sponsors included: Anheuser-Busch, ATK, Cabela’s, CropLife America, Federal Premium, Hearing Industries Association, Ice Miller Strategies, Integrity One, Natural Resource Results, Novartis, Oracle, Remington and Winchester.
