NASCAR and Sportsmen Come Together to Support CSF
October 17, 2011 (Lexington, NC) – NASCAR joined forces with hunters and anglers Wednesday evening at Richard Childress Vineyards in Lexington, North Carolina to enjoy dinner, raffle, live auction, and outdoor activities to benefit the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) mission of protecting and advancing America’s outdoor traditions.
NASCAR Legend Richard Childress hosted the 7th Annual “Wine, Wheels & Wildlife” event to bring NASCAR representatives and supporters of CSF together to celebrate the common passions of racing and hunting and fishing.
“Thanks to all my friends in both NASCAR and the hunting and fishing community for coming together in supporting the important work that CSF does in protecting the outdoor traditions of hunting and fishing that all of us hold dear,” said Childress.
This annual event serves as a platform to bring NASCAR and other private and public sector sportsmen’s leaders together to celebrate CSF’s leadership in securing an effective voice for sportsmen in the halls of government.
Those gathered at Wine, Wheels and Wildlife heard remarks from many leaders of the sportsmen’s community, including the founder of Bass Pro Shops, Johnny Morris; former Congressman Chairman of the CSF Board of Directors, Lindsay Thomas; and Wayne LaPierre, President of the National Rifle Association. Sportsman-legislators including Rep. Mike Pitts of South Carolina, President of the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses, and Rep. Robert Harrell, Jr., Speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives also spoke to the audience concerning the role of state legislators in shaping sportsman related legislation.
Chuck Leveall, one of the most respected and sought-after piano players and keyboardists in music and well-known conservationist, entertained the audience prior to the live auction. Chuck is an accomplished solo artist who has toured and recorded with artists such as The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, The Allman Brothers Band, and many others.
“We really appreciate Richard and all of the NASCAR nation, who share a common bond with the nation’s hunters and anglers, coming together every year at Childress Vineyards to enjoy our joint passions of racing and the outdoors and contribute to our mission,” said CSF President Jeff Crane.
Special thanks go to the sponsors of Wine, Wheels and Wildlife, including event sponsors: Richard Childress Racing and Childress Vineyards.
