Bassmaster Classic Champ Alton Jones Visits President Bush, Tours Washington

April 1, 2008: Washington, DC

When Texan Alton Jones, winner of the 2008 Bassmaster Classic, came to the Nation's Capitol at the behest of President Bush, he learned first-hand that anglers and hunters have many friends on Capitol Hill. Alton is now well-aware that the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus (CSC) with the support of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) is proactive in advancing the issues of importance to sportsmen and is diligent on issues such as threats to recreational boating and restrictive Marine Protected Areas.

It was a whirlwind day in the Nation's Capitol for Alton Jones and his family. On Tuesday, March 25th, Alton and Judy Wong, the Women's Bassmaster Tour champion along their families and an entourage of BASS and ESPN folks started their day with a White House visit. After trading a few fishing tips with President Bush, the group then met at Texas Senator John Cornyn's office for a tour of Capitol Hill. Senator Cornyn is the Vice-Chairman of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus.

Alton Jones Recorsds a CSF PSAAfter the tour, Alton, decked in his Yamaha tournament jersey, taped a public service announcement on the lawn of the Capitol for the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation explaining the role of CSF and its importance to anglers by directing its attention to sportsmen's legislation in Washington.  The PSA will soon appear on the CSF website.
