Anti-Hunting & Fishing (Animal Rights)
There are many organizations with anti-hunting and fishing agendas at work to limit hunting and angling activities. Often, these efforts are not based on scientific evidence or other reliable information. All conservation legislation should be based upon best available scientific information rather than emotion-driven perceptions.
Anti-Hunting (Animal Rights) Issue Briefs
Lead Sinker Ban and Lead Ammunition Ban - The trend for lead ammunition and sinker bans is growing. Because species are managed at the population level, bans of such equipment would only be acceptable if scientific evidence showed impacts to species populations.
Lead Preemption - In order to ensure changes in the use of lead ammunition and fishing tackle, legislation must be passed to prohibit banning these products unless provided with valid scientific evidence of lead causing harm to wildlife populations.
Substandard Kennels - Legislation that targets people who maintain substandard kennels currently does not affect hunting dogs, but sportsmen need to be aware of future regulation of substandard kennels that could negatively impact law-abiding dog breeders and sportsmen.
Hunting with Dogs - The anti-hunting community is outraged by the partnership hunters share with their dogs. They perceive this traditional method of hunting as cruel. Sportsmen must be aware of these efforts and continue their ethical use of hunting dogs in order to discredit the accusations from the anti-hunting community.
