(6/16/04) House Passes $19.5 Billion Interior Appropriations Bill - The U.S. House of Representatives passed the FY 2005 Interior and Related Agencies Appropriations bill last night by a vote of 334-86.

(6/10/04) Sportsmen's Groups Support Conservation Provisions in Transportation Conference Report - This week, the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation coordinated a group letter signed by 35 leading conservation organizations outlining a list of the conservation priorities that should be included in the final Transportation Conference.

(6/3/04) House Interior Appropriations Bill Passed by Subcommittee - On Thursday June 3, the House Subcommittee on Interior and Related Agencies passed its $19.7 billion FY 2005 Appropriations Bill without amendment. The bill would provide $9.8 billion for agencies within the Department of Interior and $4.2 billion for the U.S. Forest Service.

(5/6/04) - House Resources Committee Approves Migratory Bird Treaty Act Amendment - On May 5, the House Resources Committee approved HR 4114, a bill that seeks to clarify Congress' intent that non-native birds should not be protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA).


(4/2/04) House Passes Transportation Reauthorization Bill - The House of Representatives passed their version of the surface transportation reauthorization (HR 3550, the Transportation Equity Act: a Legacy for Users) on April 2 by a vote of 357-65. The six-year, $283.5 billion bill is $34.5 billion less than the $318 billion Senate version (S. 1072) that passed on February 12th.

(3/2/04) - Bill Increasing Funding for Sportfishing and Boating Passes House Tax Committee - Legislation the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation began working on last spring moved a step closer to becoming a reality yesterday when the House Committee on Ways & Means unanimously passed a bill that includes a provision to increase funding for the Sport Fish Restoration Act's Aquatic Resources Trust Fund (ARTF).

(3/2/04) Senate Rejects Lawful Commerce in Arms Act After Amendments Approved - On March 2, after the US Senate narrowly accepted a number of amendments that diluted the firearm industry liability bill (S. 1805/S.659), the Senate voted to kill the bill on a vote of 8-90.

(2/26/04) Senate Begins Debate on S. 659 - The U.S. Senate has begun debate on the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (S. 659 now renumbered as S. 1805) with votes on amendments expected to start later today.

(12/3/03) President Signs Healthy Forests Bill Into Law - The Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation joined President George W. Bush this morning at a signing ceremony for legislation that would enhance active forest management to minimize devastating wildfires.

(11/21/03) House and Senate Pass Final Healthy Forests Bill -The conference report for the Healthy Forests Restoration Act (HR 1904) was passed by the House Friday November 21 by a vote of 286 - 140 and was passed by voice vote in the Senate shortly after. The bill will now head to President Bush for his signature.

(11/17/03) Sportsmen's Groups Urge Funding for CRP Technical Assistance - The House and Senate are working to roll the remaining unfinished appropriations bills into an omnibus funding bill and sportsmen's groups are remaining vigilant in urging Congress not to cut off technical assistance funding for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP).

(11/12/03) Senate Committee Approves Highway Bill with Conservation Priorities - On Wednesday November 12, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee approved a $255 billion bill to fund the nation's highways over the next six years. The bill, S. 1072 or "SAFETEA", includes the reauthorization of the Sport Fish Restoration Act, hundreds of millions of dollars for roads and trails on federal public lands, funding for recreational boating and fishing, and habitat mitigation programs, among other conservation items.

(10/31/03) Forest Management Bill Clears Senate - By a vote of 80 to 14, the United States Senate passed legislation on October 30th that will allow for more proactive forest management in an effort to curtail wildfires like those burning in southern California.

President Signs Interior Appropriations Conference Report - The House and Senate approved the conference report for the FY '04 Interior Department and Related Agencies spending early in November paving the way for its signature by the President on November 10.

House Appropriations Committee Passes FY 04 Interior and Agriculture Funding Bills - On Wednesday, June 25 the House Appropriations Committee approved the FY 04 funding bills for the Departments of the Interior and Agriculture as recommended last week by the respective Appropriations Subcommittees.
