(3-29-07) Leaders Call for Managing Elk with Hunts in National Parks - South Dakota is the fourth state to wrestle with the issue of whether to use hunting as a tool to manage growing elk herds in national parks. A member of the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission is asking that the state’s congressional delegation request a hunting season in Wind Cave National Park in order to control the elk population.

(3-22-07) Caucus Members Recruit Colleagues for Conservation Appropriations - Members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus have been busy recruiting the support of other lawmakers to secure funding for conservation programs, including State Wildlife Grants, the National Wildlife Refuge System and North American Wetlands Conservation Act.

(3-8-07) House Caucus Members Introduce Tax Bills to Benefit Conservation Effort - Caucus Member Rep. Mike Thompson will soon introduce legislation that would provide tax incentives for landowners who help endangered species. He is also partnering with Caucus member Rep. Dave Camp to introduce companion legislation to a conservation easement tax break bill already being considered in the Senate.

(3-8-07) Boaters Call on Congress to Correct Ballast Water Ruling - Outdoor industry representatives and sportsmen, including the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, have written to the Congressional Boating Caucus requesting a legislative solution to a 2006 ruling by a federal judge against recreational boating exemptions to the Clean Water Act which was designed for cargo container ships, cruise ships and supertankers.

(3-8-07) Hunting as a Management Tool in National Parks - In 2006, CSF encouraged Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne to consider a policy shift that would allow hunters to manage overpopulated game species on National Park Service lands. Recently, two members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus introduced legislation to open the door for elk hunting in some national parks.

(3-1-07) Sportsmen's Caucus Members Introduce Endangered Species Reform - Calling a press conference, five members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus announced the introduction of “The Endangered Species Recovery Act of 2007” yesterday. Senate leaders and members of the Caucus announced that the legislation would provide tax incentives for landowners who help endangered species.

(3-1-07) Wildlife Professionals Migrate to Washington in Support of State Wildlife Funding - Wildlife professionals from around the country came to Capitol Hill yesterday morning to meet with members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus at a briefing co-sponsored by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. The briefing was part of the annual Teaming with Wildlife Fly-In organized to raise awareness for the need of federal funding for the State Wildlife Grants Program.

(2-22-07) Proposed ESA Reform Focuses on Landowner Tax Incentives - Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus Co-Chair Sen. Mike Crapo plans to introduce legislation next week that would provide tax incentives for landowners who help endangered species. By focusing on tax incentives, the bill would remain in the hands of the Senate Finance Committee, as opposed to those with traditional authority over Endangered Species Act revisions.

(2-22-07) Appropriation Funding is Key for Wildlife Related Programs - CSF, the American Sportfishing Association and Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies have called on the hunting and fishing community to sign a letter to the Senate and House Budget Committees, Senate and House Agriculture Committees and the leadership of both chambers of Congress calling for “serious consideration of providing additional funds above the January Congressional Budget Office baseline so the Agriculture Committee can meet this country’s conservation, forestry, research, and renewable energy priorities and goals.”

(2-22-07) Caucus Members Ready to Champion Sportsmen’s Issues in 110th Congress - Despite the early closure of the federal government due to a snow and ice storm in Washington, DC, members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus gathered with CSF supporters and friends at a reception to highlight sportsmen’s issues expected in the 110th Congress and to welcome new freshman members of the Caucus.

(2-8-07) Invasives Bill for Refuge System Introduced - Rep. Ron Kind, who also serves as the co-chairman of the Wildlife Refuge Caucus, has introduced legislation that would provide grants to combat invasive species on National Wildlife Refuges. The bill, H.R. 767, is a reintroduction of legislation he put forward last July called the "Refugee Ecology Protection, Assistance and Immediate Response Act," or REPAIR Act.

(2-8-07) Caucus Members Introduce Rural Heritage Conservation Extension Act - Caucus members have introduced the Rural Heritage Conservation Extension Act, a bill that would make permanent a provision passed last year that enables farmers and ranchers to voluntarily place land into conservation easements to help protect wildlife habitat.

(2-8-07) “No Net Loss” Legislation Introduced in Senate - Sen. Saxby Chambliss introduced S. 408, The Hunting Heritage Protection Act, which calls on federal land management agencies to promote and support hunting on public lands.
