The Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council (SFBPC) met this week in Washington for its first meeting of 2007. The SFBPC, a federal advisory board established to advise the Secretary of the Interior and the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, discussed efforts to move the National Fish Habitat Action Plan forward. The plan is a partnership between state and federal agencies and conservation organizations to work together on fish habitat restoration plans across the country, focusing on the most imperiled fisheries and waterways. Included in those efforts is the introduction of authorizing legislation, which the leadership of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus has made a legislative priority for the 110th Congress. The SFBPC also covered Farm Bill efforts to increase the benefits to aquatic resources and fisheries conservation under the Conservation Title of the legislation.
Discussion also focused on the key role sportsmen’s caucuses as the federal and state level play in implementing and moving forward legislative priorities of importance to the boating and fishing community. CSF President Jeff Crane serves on the SFBP Council along with 15 other representatives from the fishing and boating community.
