Sportsmen’s Coalition Speaks Out Against Navy Landing Field
|
|
A coalition of the nation's leading sporting, conservation, and environmental organizations held a press conference today on the controversial subject of a proposed Navy Super Hornet landing field less than 4 miles from the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina. As home to more than 100,000 swans, geese, and ducks, the site is considered one of the nation's most important refuges for waterfowl and wildlife. It is estimated that the proposed remote landing strip would see 13,000 landings and departures each year, averaging one every 40 minutes. For two years, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation has facilitated discussions with the Department of Defense, Members of Congress and the Administration in an effort to reach a compromise solution to locate the landing strip in a more suitable location..
