Congressmen Alerted on Clean Boating
Act of 2008 Washington, DC – The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) hosted a Capitol Hill breakfast briefing today, sponsored by Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.), where members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) and other interested parties were informed about the importance and status of The Clean Boating Act of 2008. If the legislation passes, it could save recreational boaters and anglers from having to comply with Clean Water Act regulations originally designed for cargo container ships, cruise ships and supertankers - not recreational boats. Hunting Groups Oppose Polar Bear 'Endangered' Listing Washington, DC - Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW) and member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, presented a sportsmen’s group letter during a Committee Hearing today that opposes the listing of the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The letter was signed by twenty national hunting organizations, members of the American Wildlife Conservation Partnership (AWCP). Bassmaster Classic Champ Alton Jones Visits President Bush, Tours Washington Washington, DC – When Texan Alton Jones, winner of the 2008 Bassmaster Classic, came to the Nation’s Capitol at the behest of President Bush, he learned first-hand that anglers and hunters have many friends on Capitol Hill. Alton is now well-aware that the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) with the support of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) is proactive in advancing the issues of importance to sportsmen and is diligent on issues such as threats to recreational boating and restrictive Marine Protected Areas.
Shimano’s Phil Morlock Receives Canadian Sportfishing Industry Award Washington, DC – Phil Morlock, Director of Environmental Affairs for Shimano in both the U.S. and Canada is a respected member of the Board of Directors of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) where he chairs the Communications Committee. He is frequently in Washington working with the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus on Capitol Hill and groups like the American Sportfishing Association (ASA) to advance issues of importance to America’s fishermen.
Kansas Forms Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Becomes 35th State Caucus to Join NASC Topeka, KS – Sportsmen will now have an influential ally in the State Legislature as Kansas forms its Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus with a Kick-Off event at the Topeka Country Club this evening. The Caucus will also become the 35th state affiliated with the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC). So-Called “Bear Protection Bill” Exposed By Outdoors Community, Congressman and FWS Washington, DC - At the urging of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, a letter signed by twenty-two organizations representing millions of sportsmen was sent to Rep. Nick Rahall, Chairman and Rep. Don Young, Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Committee, strongly opposing HR5534, the supposed ‘Bear Protection Act of 2008’. The letter, which was introduced into a hearing this week by former Caucus Chairman, Don Young (R-AK), requested that the committee oppose the bill and give no further legislative attention to it.

Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation. With the 2008 elections looming,
it is important for sportsmen to make the connection between the actions
of their elected officials and their enjoyment of hunting and fishing.
