New Mexico Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus
New Mexico was one of the 21 original state legislative sportsmen's caucuses that united to form the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) in December of 2004. After functioning independently within their own state legislature, New Mexico policymakers now had a common network for the interaction of ideas and a resource to help advance issues important to sportsmen in their home states.
As one of the most active caucuses in the nation, the New Mexico Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus hosted two big events in 2008. The first event was a reception that took place in January of 2008 during their one month session. And, the caucus also co-hosted with SCI, a dove hunt in Roswell New Mexico.
Since inception, caucus members have introduced pro-sportsmen legislation and raised the awareness of the economic status of New Mexico's 224,000 hunters and fishermen, who spend $456 million annually and support 8,000 jobs.
