Louisiana Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus
The Louisiana Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus was formed in April 2004, becoming the 18th state to establish a sportsmen's caucus. Thirty-nine legislators, including Republican and Democratic members of the House and Senate, took part in the organizational meeting. Sen. Joe McPherson, Sen. Robert Barham, Rep. Bryant Hammett, and Rep. Tom McVea served as first co-chairs of the caucus.
Since inception, the Louisiana Sportsmen's Caucus has passed legislation:
1. Giving youth and other newcomers expanded opportunity to hunt
2. Ensuring state public hunting lands will always be available by requiring that the state maintain a baseline of state lands available for hunting
3. Offering special hunting and/or fishing licenses for veterans and members of the military
4.Enhancing funding for fish and wildlifeBanning the unethical practice of remote hunting via the internet
