Georgia Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus
Georgia was one of the 21 original state legislative sportsmen's caucuses that united to form the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) in December of 2004. After functioning independently within their own state legislature, Georgia policymakers now had a common network for the interaction of ideas and a resource to help advance issues important to sportsmen in their home states.
In 2008 caucus members passed a bill that acknowledges that the future of hunting and fishing lies within the youth of America. In efforts to foster the spirit of the outdoors, the Caucus introduced HR 1856 which urges the State Board of Education to provide for a course of instruction for students in grades 9 through 12 in hunting, fishing, and nature appreciation.
1.1-million Peach State hunters and anglers spend $1.8-billion per year and support 31,000 jobs, ranking 10th in the country.
