SB 589 seeks to ensure that hunting license tag and stamp funds benefit game species and their habitats. SB 589 is sponsored by California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA), a sportsmen's advocacy coalition of over 30 wildlife conservation and hunting organizations.

"The hunting community recognizes the need to protect the habitat of the species they hunt and is already paying to do so through the purchase of hunting license tags and stamps," said Harman. "SB 589 requires that government does its job by guaranteeing the funds are spent properly."

It also furthers the goal of adding transparency as to how government spends taxpayer dollars by requiring the California Department of Fish and Game to account for how the tag fees are spent.

Senator Harman and Mark Hennelly, Vice President of the California Outdoor Heritage Alliance, discuss the importance of Senate Bill 589 to wildlife preservation efforts, hunters and sportsmen.

Senator Harman represents the cities of Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Rossmoor, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Irvine, Cypress, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Laguna Beach, Dana Point and portions of Buena Park, Garden Grove, Santa Ana and Westminster.
