Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax Bill Introduced in the Senate
Congressional Sportsmen Caucus Co-Chairs, Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Mike Crapo (R-ID) introduced legislation, S. 3331, seeking to rectify a longstanding inequity in the collection of the firearms and ammunition excise tax (FAET); a major source of wildlife conservation funding. S. 3331 is the companion bill to H.R. 6310 introduced in the House last month.
"I'm an avid supporter of the second amendment. My legislation will help cut bureaucratic red tape and help the firearm industry save resources," Baucus said. "At the same time this bill will help preserve our outdoor heritage. This is a good bill and I'll work together with my colleagues to get this passed." more...
Members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus have introduced the "Second Amendment Enforcement Act" (H.R. 6691). This critical legislation overturns D.C.'s recently enacted emergency laws that continue to defy the recent Supreme Court ruling by continuing to restrict District of Columbia residents' right to self-defense.
"We have an agreement with House leadership to have a vote on the provisions included in H.R. 6691 in early September, giving us the opportunity to implement legislation required to ensure that the District of Columbia's gun laws are in compliance with the Supreme Court's decision in District of Columbia v. Heller." CSC Members, U.S. Reps. John Tanner (D-TN), John Dingell (D-MI) and Mike Ross (D-AR) released statement on H.R. 6691.
